THE 12 CARTOONS PUBLISHED IN DENMARK'S JYLLANDS-POSTEN
American media outlets are reticent to publish the full collection. Decide for yourself by first looking at the artwork, then in turn considering the motivations of the cartoonists, as well as the social forces (the history of cartoon satire, the background of Jyllands-Posten and its editor, previous West vs. Islam clashes, the ideology of the Imams involved), and, of course, the spectrum of reactions of audiences around the world.
Multiple perspectives, anchored in the cartoon objects. Anything less than "anchored multiperspectivity" obviously misses a large part of this important story. This is Paglia's Break, Blow, Burn criticism. This is integral criticism. Don't rely merely on what you read about this controversy (or see) in the mainstream media. Dig deeper yourself.
AND THERE WERE FABRICATED CARTOONS At least three additional cartoons, not published in Denmark, may have been the real driver of the violence and rioting. More on that story here. Also see this whole set of art/images, over the centuries that depict Mohammed, is here, including the three fabricated cartoons.
To see these 3 fabrications, you must scroll far down the page (about 75%), just below the images of the 12 infamous cartoons that were published.
UPDATE: And this blog is making the case that the uproar was a Saudi Arabian government-driven action to divert attention from the 350 pilgriims that were trampled to death in January.
